Gymkhana Golf Course 9th August 2012

The August Monthly Away Game will be held at the Gymkhana Golf Club on Thursday 9th August 2012 with an anticipated tee-off time of 0830 all members to be present and accounted for by 0800.

Green Fee + Caddy Fee: 400 baht

Anyone wishing to have a practice round prior to the day of the event can get the price listed above if signed in by a member.  For those who are interested, some Chiangmai Golfers who are members  (Garry, Nigel, Len to mention a few) play there regularly on a Monday, Wednesday &/or Friday teeing off at 0830 and will sign you in for a round.

The event will be an Individual Stableford Event.  After committee discussion and input from members it was decided that the course is too difficult and the weather too unpredictable for a limited club event.

If you wish to play in this event please get your name to club captains or committee members ASAP or prior to the 3rd of August when the event will be closed off. It should be mentioned that this is only a 9 hole course and if we get more than 36 golfers the event may be closed off earlier and if so, it will be "first in first served" as far as competitors go.

Today at Royal Chiang Mai we had 27 Members and one guest playing at our July 2012 away match. Everyone showed up on time and there were no delays to get the round started. We went out in 7 foursomes on both Tee # 1 and Tee # 10.

The Golf Course was in great shape, the greens were very fair and the ball stopping well on the good approach shots. The weather was more on the warmer side with the Sun out most of the day and no Wind until the last couple of holes.

One group had a special tee off happening when Jack Cooper was in his down swing his Ball fell of his Tee and he hit only the Tee which lifted off with a funny sound and landed about 20 yards in front of the Tee Box but his ball did not move an Inch forward. Jack finished his swing with a complete follow thru just to realize that he had to do it all over again.

After the round we met in the "Club Room" were we had a nice cold 30 Liter Keg of Leo waiting for us. The Service was excellent and the food was great as well.

We want to mention that Khun Noi the Marketing Director of the Royal Chiang Mai Golf Course, she was the key person for us to make sure we had a most enjoyable day at their facilities. A special thanks go out to her with a promise that we will be back.

As to the Scores. We noticed that the course was playing much more difficult than other courses we play in our weekly games hence we had only three Players scoring over 36 points. Minor Placings were Third Place with 34 points Rob Lassig, second place with 37 points Jerry Buckley. The Winner with a total of 39 points today was Lester Twigden who by the way was the last one to arrive this morning. We have to revise the phrase "the early Bird catches the worm".

Congratulations to the Winners, well done and well deserved. For more information on the Scoring please have a look at the Handicap Page.

On another note we had some slow play today and the Committee received a formal complaint which we will follow up on but at this time we are asking all players, that

IF THE GROUP BEHIND YOU IS PLAYING FASTER THAN YOU THEN YOU HAVE TO LET THEM PLAY THRU. That is provided of course that the slower playing group has at least one clear
hole in front of them. There should absolutely be no discussion about this rule as it is Golf Etiquette.
So to everyone out there, next time let a faster playing group or groups play
through and help make it more enjoyable for everyone.
